Recycling Water Plastic Bottles Or Soda Plastic Liters
by Cecile Cinco
What do you do with empty soda liters (1.5 and 2 liters) or empty bottled water bottles? These are made of plastic that is said to harm the environment so some actions have been done to limit their way to the incinerator.
Instead, many make use of it as freezing receptacles so when they bring it to some place, by the time they have to drink, the water is still cold, and they do not even have to buy. Yes, it’s a saving tactic but is it safe?
I say don’t put drinking water in it and freeze. I haven’t proven it to be truth or myth yet but to be safe, I rather not, though I don’t have ref anyway so it really is not my practice.
What can you do instead with those empty bottles that harms the environment when incinerated and harms your body when you freeze water in it?
Here are some suggestions:
- Make a hanging garden. Especially for those with limited garden space, you actually cut the big plastic bottles in half, punch some holes under (for drain) and punch 2 holes on the left and right so you can put a rope so you can hang your new plant “pot” on the wall. The top part need no punching from drain as you just invert the top part and remove the bottle cap and you got instant drain. Small bottles can be for small plants.
- Make a bath soap bin. What I don’t like with common soap bins is that in a day, water soaks the soap. Also, since it’s movable and usually on top of the toilet flush (quite a small bathroom and toilet here), it usually falls to the floor and may even fall into the toilet.
Solution? Get the top part of the soda liter bottle and hang by the wall. Make 2, if you wish, just as we did, one for the big soap and one for the remains that got small over use.
- Make a bowling set of pins. I’m sure this would be fun. Use the small bottles, fill with water and cap tight. A small ball is enough to complete the fun.
- Make a fence. Fill with water (color it if you want) and surround your house just so telling others what encompasses your property. Or, you can use it to surround seedlings in your garden so it will not be accidentally stepped on, instead of sticks that can harm when you accidentally trip over it.
Let your imagination flow. What else can you do with plastic bottles to make use of them safely?
